Health Tips for Spring

Spring has sprung and many people are looking forward to becoming more active in the warmer months. Whether you watch your health carefully all year long or you are hoping to get healthier this spring and summer, read on for some health tips so you can improve your health and feel great starting right now.

Get Enough Sleep

With the sun out longer in the evenings, many people tend to go to bed later in the warmer months. While this wouldn’t be a problem if they could also sleep later, most are not able to do that. In addition, daylight savings time means for darker mornings that are harder to wake up to. Be sure that you’re getting seven to eight hours of sleep most nights. Getting enough sleep allows your body to repair cells overnight; it also makes you feel better and makes you more likely to make better choices when it comes to food and physical activity.

Eat Right

The spring is a great time to change your eating habits, because fresh veggies will be coming into season. Asparagus, peas, lettuce, and leafy greens are all prolific this time of year. If you have a garden, be sure to fill up on these veggies! If not, pick them up at the grocery store when you see them at a good price. Foods like carrots, celery, grapes, kale, and berries are all great for your overall health as well as for your teeth. Add in whole grains, lean sources of protein, and healthy fats, and you’ll be giving your body the fuel it needs to thrive.

Exercise More

The warmer days make it easier to go for a walk or a jog after work or after dinner. Once the weather warms up, you won’t have to worry about icy patches or feeling too cold. Drink plenty of water and see your doctor first if you’ve been sedentary so he or she can assure you that it’s safe for you to exercise. Getting a move on will make you feel good, will make your heart healthier, and can even help you lose a few pounds before swimsuit season.

Keeping your body healthy will, in turn, keep your teeth and gums healthier. Follow these health tips to feel great all year long.
