Cleanings
To ensure a healthy mouth, most patients should have their teeth cleaned twice a year. Dr. Andrews’ skilled hygienist gently removes plaque and calculus (calcified plaque) at or above the gum line, removing stains during the process. By allotting an entire hour for an adult cleaning (20 minutes longer than most offices allow), Dr. Andrews ensures all patients receive a meticulous cleaning.
Sealants
Sealants are clear coverings that prevent decay by protecting the pits and fissures on the biting surfaces of your teeth. Because this service is so valuable, Dr. Andrews places all sealants personally and has a phenomenal success record.
Gold Restorations
Gold restorations (which include inlays, onlays, crowns, and bridges) are the longest-lasting of all restorations in dentistry. They are individually designed for each tooth and maximize tooth preservation. For non-visible areas, gold is usually the material of choice. Gold is a bio-compatible material.
Periodontal
Gum disease affects a majority of adults over 30 years of age. Clinical studies have shown that inflamed gums (or “gingivae”) have been linked to increased incidence of heart attack, stroke, and pre-mature birth. Dr. Andrews’ skilled hygienist will clean below the gum line to remove calcified plaque and bacteria. A local anesthetic is used to keep the patient comfortable while this procedure is performed. Patients are also taught how to prevent their gums from becoming infected again.
TMD
Temporal Mandibular Disorder (TMD) is disharmony in the joint that lies between the skull and lower jawbone. This condition may cause headaches or other facial pain and can restrict the movement of the lower jaw. TMD is often influenced by psychological stress, hormones, the autonomic nervous system and the way the teeth come together. Dr. Andrews uses several methods to treat TMD. He creates splints that are worn to relax the jaw muscles and protect the teeth from wear. He also may re-contour certain portions of the teeth in order to allow them to come together more harmoniously. Dr. Andrews was trained to treat this condition by Dr. Pete Dawson, the world’s foremost expert on TMD.
